I had the pleasure of attending FIT’s Visiting Artist Series last night featuring Matteo Bologna, Principal and Creative Director of Mucca Design. FIT has been offering these free lectures for the past ten years showcasing well known designers such as Michael Bierut, David Carson, Louis Fili, Stefan Sagmeister, and now Matteo Bologna.

Matteo (resembling the Italian version of a Salvador Dali) is an impassioned and unique presenter. He showed samples of his past and present work and spoke about the branding process, his take on working with clients, his inspirations and thoughts on type design. He even revealed the inspiration behind the studios name Mucca (Italian for cow)‑ his pet dog! An energizing night–salute Matteo!

reitdesign is sponsoring the 2010 Downtown Little League Yankees. The season got off to a great start!! We had our annual opening day parade starting at City Hall Park and ending at the newly decked out fields in Battery Park City. The festivities included bands, snacks, a visit from the Staten Island Yankees Mascot and the first pitch of the season. There has been a lot of excitement this year as we hold a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. Our games are every Sunday. Contact us for a full schedule of our games and if you find yourself downtown, come on over a cheer for us!! See you on the fields.

I had the opportunity to attend AIGA’s event, Navigating the Labyrinth: Unimark International and the New York Subway System. Among the evening’s speakers were Massimo Vignelli, Tom Geismar and Lance Wyman. Highlights included lively exchanges between Vignelli (one of the designers of the original subway system) and past and present heads of the MTA design department. Mr. Vignelli was gracious enough to sign my copy of the original 1972 subway map! eBay, here I come!

Recorded as the largest book in the world, the Klencke Atlas has never been displayed with its pages open. This summer, the British Library has a great exhibition featuring 100 maps

check out the article; beautiful art that’s been strangely overlooked will have the spotlight…
