Fresh Dialogue 26: Type Forecast
I recently had the opportunity to attend AIGA NY’s newest installment of the Fresh Dialogue series titled “Type Forecast”. True to its name, the discussion centered on the unique challenges facing lettering and font design today.
The evening’s speakers included typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische, who’s Daily Drop Cap website has earned her international recognition. Georg Seifert, a software and type designer who is currently developing “Glyphs,” his own font design application (and what looks to be a fantastic alternative to Fontlab). Brooklyn-based Joshua Darden is the founder of Darden Studio, a typeface design and consultancy studio. Among the many great typefaces he’s created are include Jubilat, Freight and Birra Stout.
In an increasing era of stock images, canned effects and default typefaces, It was a real treat to see some extraordinary work and the talented people still willing to invest the time to create it. I’m looking forward to taking “Glyphs” out for a typographic spin.
